Over the last two years, I’ve spoken to hundreds of professionals who worry that AI, with its speed, scale, and efficiency, will replace them. They fear losing jobs, relevance, and identity.

While it’s true, AI will inevitably take over much of the machine work we do today, within that loss is an opportunity: to redefine ourselves, discover new strengths, and sculpt a new version of who we can be. 

AI can optimize and scale yesterday but humans know how create tomorrow. 

AI excels at speed, but it will never dream of pushing boundaries—of climbing Everest, exploring the depths of the ocean, or reaching beyond the stars. Those irrational, aspirational impulses are uniquely human.

As AI increasingly takes on the machine work—automating and optimizing the mundane tasks that have defined our lives—we have the opportunity to return to what is uniquely human. This isn’t about resisting the machines but about inviting them to do what they’re built for, so we can focus on what only we can do.

By allowing AI to amplify what it’s good at and doubling down on what makes us human, we’re poised for an unprecedented moment—a new Big Bang of opportunity, fueled by the synergy of machines doing the machine work and humans reclaiming the human work—which is building meaning through curiosity, creativity, connection, collaboration, community, culture, and cooperation—what I call the 7Cs.

For that to happen, conversation, in particular, is our compass. 

In an era of rapid, unpredictable change, where there are no experts, boundaries or rules, conversation anchors us. Like Magellan navigating unknown seas, it’s through conversations—asking why, experimenting, aspiring—that we navigate the unknown. Conversations guide us from ‘here to there’ as we chart the map and terrain of a new Tomorrow.
